A SIMPLE AND TASTY WAY TO FIGHT FOOD WASTE AND HELP THE LOCAL COMMUNITY
Did you know that The Netherlands is the second largest producer of vegetables worldwide? And did you know that most of the food waste actually takes place even before it arrives in the supermarkets? In a lot of cases the crops are simply not accepted because they are not picture perfect enough or the retailers demand has changed during the growth of the crop.
This problem has been increasing since the first lockdown in 2020. When Covid forced restaurants and stores to close their doors we saw an growing amount of surplus and unsold products and crops. We decided it was time for action, so we started buying the local unsold produce and used our background knowledge to transform them into plant-based sauces with delicious flavours from around the world.
Roots, Rice & Beans collaborates with organic farmers and producers that use regenerative agriculture techniques. Together we create a selection of all-year-round products, but we also develop new recipes that are based on seasonal crops that are delivered to us.
MEET THE FARMERS!
Regenerative agriculture aims to give back to nature as much as we take by keeping the balance in the soil, improve biodiversity by enhancing ecosystems, and increase resilience to climate change.
Below are some examples on how Roots, Rice & Beans makes the difference compared to the mono-cultured modern agriculture techniques.
